| The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) is proud to recognize Congressman Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin as this year’s Legislative Champion for his unwavering support of America’s motorcycling community and his leadership on issues impacting riders nationwide. A retired U.S. Navy SEAL veteran, Representative Van Orden has built a reputation in Congress as a principled leader, a strong advocate for individual freedom, and a lawmaker whose office is always open to America’s bikers. As a member of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus, Rep. Van Orden understands firsthand the importance of protecting the lifestyle, culture, and rights of motorcyclists across the country. An avid rider himself, Congressman Van Orden is known around Capitol Hill for riding his motorcycle to work every day in Washington, D.C. This reflects the fact that motorcycling is not simply a hobby to him, but part of who he is. Representative Van Orden has also demonstrated legislative leadership as the lead sponsor of H.R. 3385, legislation that would modernize and update the federal definition of a motorcycle to better reflect today’s evolving technology and vehicle designs. The bill represents an important step toward ensuring federal law keeps pace with innovation.“Congressman Van Orden understands motorcyclists because he is one,” said MRF President Kirk “Hardtail” Willard. Each year, the MRF Legislative Champion Award recognizes lawmakers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and support for motorcyclists and the issues important to the riding community. The MRF thanks Representative Derrick Van Orden for his continued service to the nation, his support of America’s riders, and his dedication to protecting the future of motorcycling. |
