(2-7-17)     February and it is cold outside. Good time to get busy with the old scoot and get her ready for the coming riding season. Your tires are your life, so to speak, so this is the first thing you need to look at, check the tread depth and if any doubt your tires will get you through the coming riding season replace them. Next inspect your controls, throttle and clutch cables operate smoothly? If not replace the worn cables, now inspect your brake pads to see how much lining you have left, if the linings are halfway gone replace them, at halfway you are into the softer material and the will wear at a much quicker rate. Brake pads are much less expensive than a brake rotor and ...................( Read more....)

(2-7-17)     And speaking of seminars, ours is coming up April 7-8 in Akron. Iím sure there is a flyer for it somewhere in this great publication. I look forward to seeing everyone. This is our chance to get together learn some things and really set a direction for this year. Kohlman and the rest of the seminar committee have been working to cram as much information as possible into that weekend. And it gives us a chance to visit and swap stories with some people we donít see as much as weíd like to. Sign up a new member and letís get our numbers back up where they belong and drag them along. And be ready to contact your legislator when itís time.....................( Read more....)

(2-7-17)     Here in Ohio, a flurry of Lame Duck legislation passed a bunch of bills, some good, some bad (depending on your viewpoint). One good one was HB154 which contained a "Red Light" component. This will enable a vehicle that encounters a red light that fails to trip as a stop sign and proceed when safe to do so. HB 115, the Road Guard Bill will have to be re-introduced in the new session. A meeting has been requested with Rep. Landis, by the time this is read, I'll know where we stand on this issue............. ( Read more )

(2-7-17)     2016 is over and we did not do very well. This is due to several factors - very good weather for most of the year and more motorcycles on the roads. 2016 was the 2nd highest in the last 10 years with 4,159 crashes and 195 fatalities. Motorcycle Ohio trains us and motorcycle manufacturers build better bikes with the best ever brakes, and we still kill ourselves. In 70% of fatalities the rider was at fault. Some very important facts from Motorcycle Ohio, June and October accounted for most of the fatalities, 48% were single unit crashes, 26% were alcohol related, 70% had the rider at fault, 60% of fatalities happened on the weekend, 62% occurred between 2-9pm and 37% of the fatalities were from fixed objects. A fact I look at every year is how many fatalities were passengers. In 2016, 21 passengers died................... ( Read more )

Tired of sitting on your bike at Red Lights
that won't turn GREEN ????
To enlist the help of Ohioís motorcyclists, ODOT set up a special phone number & E-mail for motorcyclists for reporting problem intersections.
When reports come in, ODOT will notifiy signal owners ( often a city or county ) about the situation and offer recommendations for improvement.
